Zusammenfassung:	An apparatus and a method for improving sound quality of a portable device are provided to reproduce the sound with high quality by removing an in-head localization phenomenon and using a virtual speaker processing method. An apparatus for improving sound quality includes a clipping improvement device(1) and a loss compression sound source improvement device(2). The clipping improvement device extracts the clipping region, outputs the signal, and improves the sound quality by mixing and processing the original sound signal with the sound if the clipping signal is included in the input sound source signal. The loss compression sound source improvement device detects and quantifies the noise part of the loss compression sound source if the loss comprehension sound source signal is included in the input sound source signal. The loss compression sound source improvement device compensates the loss compression according to the quantified result.
