Zusammenfassung:	A record/playback apparatus, and a contamination discriminating method and a contaminant eliminating method of a lens are provided to detect the contamination of the lens and remove the contaminant easily. A contamination discriminating method and a contaminant eliminating method include a step for detecting a signal which corresponds to the quantity of light reflected by the recording medium from a far field when a record/playback apparatus is driven(S21,S22); a step for determining contamination of a lens unit by using the detected signal(S23); and a step for performing the decontamination process of the lens when the lens unit is contaminated(S24).
