Zusammenfassung:	A method and a device for displaying a still image on a video display device are provided to display a still image corresponding to progressive or non-progressive video data rapidly in a stabilized manner even though a descriptor of the video data has an error. Video data which includes fields constructing an image to be displayed on a display device and is reconfigured in a decoding system temporally and spatially is received. One of the fields constructing the image is selected(403). The selected field is displayed on the display device for a period of time when the fields constructing the image are displayed(404).
