Zusammenfassung:	Disclosed is a liquid crystal display wherein excellent field of view compensation is performed and contrast in an oblique direction is extremely excellent. This liquid crystal display can be formed thin. Specifically disclosed is a liquid crystal display comprising a liquid crystal cell, which includes a pair of substrates one of which is provided with a color filter and a liquid crystal layer arranged between the substrates as a display medium, and an optical compensation element having at least an optical compensation layer. In this liquid crystal display, the haze value of the substrate which is provided with the color filter is larger than 10%, and the optical compensation element is arranged opposite to the color filter with respect to the liquid crystal layer.
