Zusammenfassung:	A surface light source apparatus, a backlight unit, and a method for reinforcing the same are provided to improve impact-resistant characteristic by forming a compressive stress applying material on the surface light source apparatus. A surface light source apparatus includes a light source body(110) having an inner space into which discharge gas is injected, and an electrode(140) for applying a discharge voltage to the discharge gas. A compressive stress applying material is formed on a surface of the surface light source apparatus in a thermal contraction manner. The compressive stress applying material is a thermosetting resin. A thermal shrinkage of the compressive stress applying material is greater than that of the light source body. The light source body is provided with a first glass substrate(120) and a second glass substrate(130). The compressive stress applying material has a thermal shrinkage greater than that of the glass substrate.
