APPARATUS FOR CONTROLLING POWER OF WIMEDIA MEDIA ACCESS CONTROL DEVICE AND METHOD USING THE SAME

An apparatus and a method for controlling power of a Wimedia MAC are provided to reduce power consumption of a Wimedia MAC based on pre-set time information when there is a loss of a fragment of an MSDU(MAC Service Data Unit). A fragment of an MSDU is received from a transmission side Wimedia MAC device(S310). The Wimedia MAC device checks whether there is a loss of the fragment of the MSDU(S320). If there is a loss of the fragment of the MSDU, the Wimedia MAC device extracts a period field from the received fragment of the MSDU(S330). The Wimedia MAC device changes a power mode from an active mode to a low power mode during time set in the period field(S340). The Wimedia MAC device checks whether the set time has lapsed, and if so, the Wimedia MAC device changes the power mode from the low power mode to the active mode(S350,S360).
