A mobile terminal having a joy stick and its input processing method are provided to enhance user convenience in using a menu by guaranteeing continuity of an input operation of a user to enter a lower menu or execute a related function. A stick unit performs user's pressing selection and direction selection. The first select signal output unit(24) outputs the first mode signal if a pressing distance of the stick unit is relatively short. The second select signal output unit(26) outputs the second mode signal if the pressing distance of the stick unit is longer than that of the first select signal output unit. A direction key signal output unit(22) outputs a direction key signal according to the direction indicated by the stick unit. A display unit(7) displays a menu screen image. A controller(5) displays a plurality of menu icons on the display unit according to user selection of a menu view, and if the first mode signal is inputted from the first select signal output unit, the controller displays a selected menu icon and one or more lower menus included in the menu.
