ADJUSTABLE STEERING COLUMN FOR A MOTOR VEHICLE

The invention proposes an adjustable steering column 1 for a motor vehicle having an adjustment part 3, which is adjustable in at least one adjustment direction, for adjusting the position of the steering column, having a holding part 4 which is non-adjustable in said adjusting direction, and having a fixing device 5, it being possible when said fixing device is in the open state for the adjustment part 3 to be adjusted relative to the holding part 4 in order to adjust the position of the steering column 1, and the adjustment part 3 being fixed by said fixing device when the latter is in the closed state. A crash blocking device is provided, by means of which an additional holding force for counteracting a displacement of the adjustment part 3 relative to the holding part 4 can be exerted at least in the event of a crash, said crash blocking device having one blocking element 6, 7 which is connected to the adjustment part 3 and one blocking element 6, 7 which is connected to the holding part 4, one of the blocking elements 6 having scales 8 which act resiliently out of the surface, and the other one of the two blocking elements 7 having cut-outs 9 such that at least some of the scales 8 which project resiliently out of the surface of the first blocking element 6 can be placed at least partially in engagement in corresponding cut-outs 9 of the other blocking element 7 when the fixing device 5 is in the closed state.
