APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR REPRODUCING

A data reproducing apparatus and method are provided to readily discriminate a collision between a recording medium and an SIL(Solid Immersion Lens) by detecting a level of a gap servo signal, and deactivate operation of an actuator when the collision occurs. A data reproducing apparatus comprises an SIL(Solid Immersion Lens,122), an objective lens(121), an actuator(120), photoelectric units(113,115), and a control part(200). The SIL and objective lens allow a beam emitted from a light source to be projected on a recording medium(123). The actuator is configured to perform a gap servo operation. The photoelectric units detect a gap servo signal of a beam reflected from the SIL. The control part monitors a level of the gap servo signal detected by the photoelectric unit, and discriminates whether a collision between the recording medium and the SIL occurs. The control part deactivates the operation of the data reproducing apparatus when the level of the gap servo signal exceeds a predetermined reference level.
