A mobile communication terminal and a method for reducing power consumption thereof are provided to shut off the display of a broadcast image when the mobile communication terminal is contacted with an ear of a user for telephone conversion. A touch screen(30) displays a received broadcast image, and senses the contact with the outside. If a plurality of recognition units senses that the touch screen is contacted with the outside, a controller(40) cuts off the display of the received broadcast image. If the recognition units hardly sense that the touch screen is contacted with the outside, the controller keeps the display of the received broadcast image.
