Zusammenfassung:A multilayer ceramic capacitor in which "squeaking" is suppressed when an electric field is applied while being mounted on a substrate. At an active portion (15) contributive to formation of a capacitance by opposing an internal electrode in a capacitor main body (4), low activity regions (30, 31) are located in the vicinity of the edges (19, 20) of external electrodes (11, 12). Opposing area of the internal electrode in the low activity regions (30, 31) is set not larger than one fifth of the opposing area of the internal electrode for the same volume as the low activity regions (30, 31) in other normal region. Consequently, field induced strain is suppressed in the vicinity of the external electrodes (11, 12) bonded to a substrate (13) thus reducing flexibility of the substrate (13).
