METHOD TO OPERATE CONTROL SLEEP MODE IN A COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

A method for controlling sleep mode operation in a communication system is provided to control the sleep mode operation between an MS and a BS by operating a timer, thereby reducing power consumption. A method for controlling sleep mode operation in a communication system comprises the following steps of: allowing an MS(Mobile Station)(100) to transferring into an awake state in the listening section of a sleep mode; and allowing the MS to perform one of a first operation, a second operation, and a third operation in the awake state and transfer into the sleep mode if it is detected that there is no data to be transmitted to a BS(Base Station)(110) or be received from the BS after the operation is completed. The first operation is a process of receiving the data from the BS. The second operation is a process of transmitting the data to the BS. The third operation is a process of receiving the data from the BS and transmitting the data to the BS.
