While the power of the video/audio processing device (1) is set to off, the control means (2) has a first standby mode and a second standby mode consuming more power than the first standby mode. The first standby mode is a mode where the power of the video/audio processing device (1) is kept in an "off" state, and the second standby mode is a mode where the power of the video/audio processing device (1) is kept in an apparent "off" state. The control means (2), for example, switches between the first standby mode and the second standby mode, in association with the power source state of an external apparatus (11) such as a television device.
