Zusammenfassung:A health food composition for prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disease containing dibenzocyclooctene compound as an active ingredient is provided. The dibenzocyclooctene compound effectively inhibits the formation of nitric oxide as neurotoxic material produced by activated microglia and shows no toxicity in experimental animals, and the health food containing the dibenzocyclooctene compound is useful for prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, ischemic stroke and multiple sclerosis. A health food composition for prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disease contains dibenzocyclooctene compound represented by a formula 1. The dibenzocyclooctene compound is obtained by extracting Schizandra fruit with an organic solvent such as methanol, fractionating the extract with silica gel adsorption chromatography and purifying.
