Zusammenfassung:	Provided are a liquid crystal aligning agent which can give the CL alignment by radiating the polarized or unpolarized light without rubbing process, an alignment layer using the liquid crystal aligning agent, and a liquid crystal display device containing the alignment layer. A liquid crystal aligning agent comprises a polymer having at least one structure represented by -P1-CR1=CR2-CO-D1-L1-S1, -P2-CR3=CR4-CO-Q2-L2-S2, -D3-Co-CR5=CR6-P3-L3-S3 or -Q4-CO-CR7=CR8-P4-L4-S4 at a side chain, wherein P1, P2,P3, P4, Q2 and Q4 are independently a divalent aromatic group or unsaturated hetero ring having at least one halogen, nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur atom as a ring member capable of being substituted with a halogen atom or an organic group; D1 and D3 are independently O, or NR (wherein R is H or a C1-C12 alkyl group); S1, S2, S3 and S4 are independently a monovalent organic group having a C11-C30 condensed alicyclic group; L1, L2, L3 and L4 are independently a single bond or a divalent group; and R1 to R8 are independently H, or a C1-C12 alkyl group.
