Zusammenfassung: | A lighting device for a flat panel display and a lighting device for a double-sided flat panel display are provided to maximize optical efficiency, minimize loss of light in a light-projecting process, facilitate processing of a beam out-coupling structure, and achieve sufficient collimation within a short section. A lighting device for a flat panel display includes a light source(11), a light guide plate(20), a collimator(10), a polarized beam splitter(30), and a beam out-coupling layer(40). The light guide plate transfers and distributes light emitted from the light source and made of an optically isotropic material. The collimator is located in close proximity to the side of the light guide plate and allows light to be inputted to the light guide plate at a predetermined incident angle. The polarized beam splitter is made of an optically anisotropic material having two refractive indexes and located on the light guide plate. The polarized beam splitter transmits a first polarized beam component of light inputted from the light guide plate and total-reflects a second polarized component of the light emitted from the light guide plate at the boundary between the polarized beam splitter and the light guide plate according to the two refractive indexes. The beam out-coupling layer is placed on the polarized beam splitter and includes a beam out-coupling structure(41) for out-coupling light inputted from the polarized beam splitter. The beam out-coupling structure is located on the surface of the beam out-coupling layer. |
