APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING OSD BLENDING ACCORDING TO FICTURE STATE

An OSD blending control apparatus and method are provided to automatically stop a blending function by analyzing a video state in which the visibility of text representing a menu is degraded so that the visibility of a caption such as a menu to be displayed in an OSD scheme can be enhanced and convenience for a user can be improved. An OSD(On-Screen Display) blending control apparatus comprises a video processor(110) for detecting a video signal from an input signal and converting the detected video signal into a signal proper for a display device(150), an OSD caption processor(120) for outputting an OSD caption video signal for displaying text or graphic, an OSD blending controller(130) for outputting an OSD blending control signal by analyzing a video signal characteristic value of an OSD area, and a mixer(140) for turning off/on an OSD blending function of the video signal and the caption video signal in response to the control signal of the OSD blending controller(130).
