Zusammenfassung:	[PROBLEMS] To provide a system for gasifying biomass capable of stably supplying residue from a gasification furnace to a heat source through a residue supply system while properly sealing the atmosphere of the gasification furnace from the atmosphere of the heat source and a method of operating the system for gasifying the biomass. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] This system for gasifying the biomass comprises the residue supply system (3) supplying, as a fuel, the residue (S) generated in the gasification furnace (2) for generating fuel gas by processing the biomass by heat from a hot blast generating furnace (1) to the hot blast generating furnace. A vertical tube (4) for accumulating the residue therein is installed in the residue supply system. The residue accumulated in the vertical tube shields the atmosphere of the gasification furnace from the atmosphere of the hot blast generating furnace. A detection means for detecting the amount of the residue in the vertical tube is formed of at least a pair of electrodes (9), (10), and (11) energized by the contact thereof with the residue in the vertical tube. ® KIPO & WIPO 2007
