CHARACTER DISPLAY METHOD

Conventionally, when a document is displayed on a mobile telephone having a limited screen size, the information cannot be displayed all at once and the button operation and screen switching are required for grasping the content of the document. A Chinese character Index is automatically created from a document and displayed. Firstly, in the document inputted in the input process (101), a character string is divided and selected according to the character type so as to create a compact sentence in the character string extraction process (102). The character analysis process (104) assigns priority from the compact sentence. From the character string analysis result, m x n characters required with priority are extracted in the Chinese character Index creation process (106) and arranged 2- dimensionally in m rows and n columns so as to create the Chinese character Index. The Chinese character Index created is outputted to the output process (107).
