PROCESS FOR MACROPOROUS ACRYLIC RESINS

Provided are a method for preparing a macroporous acrylic resin from C1-C4 alkyl acrylate, organic solvent, and crosslinking agent in aqueous suspension, and a bead of macroporous core-cell resin having carboxylic acid group. The method comprises the steps of (a) blending (i) water, (ii) C1-C4 alkyl acrylate, (iii) crosslinking agent, (iv) organic solvent, and (v) polymerization initiator to form a reaction mixture; (b) forming a droplet type of stable dispersion from the mixture, and reacting the dispersion to form a resin; (c) adding acid or base to the resin without removing 50% or more of the organic solvent; and (d) hydrolyzing an ester group of the resin by heating the resin. The acid or base is inorganic hydroxides, the organic solvent is selected from C7-C10 hydrocarbon, C3-C10 halogenated hydrocarbon, C4-C10 ketone, C4-C10 alcohol, C4-C10 alkyl ester, C4-C10 aryl ester, C4-C10 mixed alkyl/aryl ester, and composition thereof.
