COATING COMPOSITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition good in coating workability and finishability with substantially containing no volatile organic compound under environmental restriction, suitable for forming coating film of high adhesion or the like, and, for metallic coating, capable of foaming coating film of good finishability without disturbing the orientation of a metallic pigment. SOLUTION: The coating composition comprises a base coating (I) and a diluent (II). In this composition, the base coating (I) comprises a cellulose derivative (A), an acrylic resin (B), a polyester resin (C) and at least one organic solvent (D) selected from an ester-based organic solvent and ketone-based organic solvent, wherein the cellulose derivative (A) accounts for 5-75 wt.% of the total solids of the components (A), (B) and (C), and for the diluent (II), an aliphatic hydrocarbon-based organic solvent (E) accounts for 5-90 wt.% of the whole diluent (II), and the base coating (I) is preferably a metallic base coating.
