PROTECTIVE CAP FOR A BALLJOINT

A protective cap for a balljoint is disclosed, for covering the peg-shaped partial region (7) of a ready- assembled balljoint, comprising at least two hollow cylindrical sections (12, 13) of differing diameter adjacent to each other in the axial longitudinal direction of the balljoint protective cap (11), whereby the section (12) with greater diameter is arranged on the balljoint protective cap (11) for mounting onto the joint housing (1). According to the invention, an improved protection of the ready-assembled balljoint with a mounted protective cap (11) may be achieved, whereby the above comprises a transition region (16), at the joint of the two hollow cylindrical sections (12, 13), running essentially perpendicular to the axial longitudinal direction of the balljoint protective cap (11). The size of the diameter of the smaller hollow cylindrical section (13) of the balljoint protective cap (11) is only slightly larger than the size of the covered spherical housing section (8) of the joint pin (3) in the balljoint. By means of the above particular arrangement, a displacement of the sealing bellows (5) on the balljoint in the direction of the arrow (P) on mounting the balljoint protective cap on the peg-shaped partial region of the balljoint can be achieved, whereby the contact pressures in the region of the contact surfaces between the sealing bellows (5) and joint pin (3) are increased.
