METHOD FOR PREPARING OF A CERIUM OXIDE PARTICLES BY SPRAY PYROLYSIS AND PRODUCT THEREOF

A method for preparing cerium(IV) oxide particles with high purity, and controlled particle size and shape by the shortened process, spray pyrolyzing Ce(3+) solution or low purity cerium(4+) oxide in a roaster, compared to the conventional method. The cerium(IV) oxide particles are prepared by the following steps of: preparing a cerium solution obtained by dissolving 10-90wt.% of Ce(3+) salt in water or dissolving cerium(4+) oxide in an acidic solution(HNO3); changing prepared cerium solution to droplets by an aerosol generator(2); spraying droplets(0.1-10micrometer size) and O2 gas into a reaction chamber(1a) heated to 250-1000deg.C to oxidize Ce3+ to Ce4+ and dry, resulting in crystalline cerium(IV) oxide particles.
