SYSTEM AND A METHOD FOR PROVIDING MAP DATA BY USING A MOBILE COMMUNICATION TERMINAL, PARTICULARLY FOR REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF DATA TRANSMITTED TO THE MOBILE COMMUNICATION TERMINAL BY TRANSMITTING SIMPLE MAP DATA INCLUDING ROAD DATA AND PERIOD DATA ONLY

PURPOSE: A system and a method for providing map data using a mobile communication terminal are provided to reduce the amount of data transmitted to the mobile communication terminal by transmitting simple map data including only road data associated with a certain path and period data to the mobile communication terminal, thereby reducing the time required until a user receives map data after requesting the map data. CONSTITUTION: A map database(811) stores full map data and one or more simple map data. A user receiving unit(812) receives the request of map data related to a certain path from a mobile communication terminal of a user. A map data selecting unit(813) selects one of the full map data and the simple map data according to a certain standard. A user transmitting unit(814) transmits the selected map data to the mobile communication terminal.
