Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: Provided is a composition comprising the extract of Berberis genus plant which prevents and treats Alzheimer disease by inhibiting the activity of acetylcholinesterase to increase the concentration of acetylcholine. The composition is applied to functional health foods and drugs for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer disease. CONSTITUTION: The pharmaceutical composition for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer disease contains the crude extract of Berberis genus plant as an active ingredient, a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, diluent or excipient. The crude extract is obtained by using water, C1-4 lower alcohol or their mixture as an extracting solvent.
