Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: A storage device, and a method for recovering a reading error in a storage device are provided to improve the possibility of reading data from a hard disk drive. CONSTITUTION: Data recorded on a disk is read(S30). It is judged whether the data reading is successful(S32). If so, normal data is output(S34). If not, the performance of the current error recovery stage is measured(S36). The measured CSM(Channel Statistics Measurement) value is compared with a CSM value measured in the former error recovery stage(S38). If the measured CSM value of the current error recovery stage is smaller than the CSM value measured in the former error recovery stage, a parameter corresponding to the current error recovery stage is additionally applied to a parameter corresponding to the next error recovery stage(S40). If the measured CSM value of the current error recovery stage is larger than the CSM value measured in the former error recovery stage, a parameter corresponding to the former error recovery stage is additionally applied to a parameter corresponding to the next error recovery stage(S42). One stage is added to the current error recovery stage(S44). A parameter corresponding to the current error recovery stage is applied(S46). It is judged whether the current error recovery stage is the maximum error recovery stage(S48). In the case that the data is not read even after executing the maximum error recovery stage, the error is judged as a fatal error.
