Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: A brake mechanism of a washing machine is provided to obtain an accurate braking power from a brake assembly. CONSTITUTION: A brake mechanism of a washing machine comprises: a first and a second brake bands(131,132) having semi-circular portions(133,133a) surrounding a gear housing(121) and linear portions(134,134a) extended from the semi-circular portions; a hinge bracket(135) fixing the hinge combined portions of the brake bands on a mounting plate(110); a spring member combined to the ends of the brake bands and the linear portions; a shaft bar(141) axially combined to the mounting plate in a rotatable state; and a lever(140) having operating arms(142) widening the first and second brake bands in a universal direction. Therefore, the gear housing is fixed on both sides and an accurate braking power is obtained despite of high rpm of the gear housing.
