Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: A flat display device using a metal thin film rotator is provided to increase the light efficiency by blocking or passing light by the rotation motion of a thin film rotator but not using any polarization plate or orientation film. CONSTITUTION: A flat display device using a metal thin film rotator includes horizontal electrodes(42) for keeping or driving the metal thin film rotator(44) in the closed horizontal state, vertical electrodes(54,34) for keeping or driving the metal thin film rotator in the opened vertical state, and rotator electrodes for applying a voltage to the metal thin film rotator, and the horizontal and vertical electrodes, wherein the horizontal or vertical state of the metal thin film rotator is kept by the electrostatic force due to the voltage applied between the horizontal or the vertical electrodes and the rotator electrodes, so that the incident light from a light source to light paths formed by a pair of upper and lower partition walls(52,32) and inserted by the metal thin film rotator is completely shielded or transmitted in the pixel arrangement.
