Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: A method for designing an optical communication network using a computer is provided to store characteristic information of a previously installed optical line in a database using the computer and easily design the network using characteristic information of the database when introducing a very high speed/mass WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) and TDM(Time Division Multiplexing) system. CONSTITUTION: A user executes an optical transmission network design application installed in a hard disk drive, and inputs a desired optical transmission system standard and optical transmission network shape information to a main board by an input device such as a keyboard(30). The optical transmission network design application calculates a limit range of each node such as an OSNR(Optical to Signal Noise Ratio), a penalty by polarization mode dispersion, and an element limited by non-linear characteristic using optical line characteristic information of a database corresponding to the inputted optical transmission system standard and optical transmission network shape information(32). The optical transmission network design application classifies an acceptable line and an inadmissible line according to the calculated result of the limit range, designs a schematized network, and displays the designed network on a monitor through a graphic card(34). The optical transmission network design application judges whether the user selects the inadmissible line using a mouse(36). If the user selects the inadmissible line, the optical transmission network design application displays information associated with the inadmissible line through the monitor(38). If the user does not select the inadmissible line, the optical transmission network design application judges whether the user selects the acceptable line(40). If the user selects the acceptable line, the optical transmission network design application displays information associated with the acceptable line through the monitor(42).
