Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: A method and a device for producing silica glass are provided, to minimize the permeation of air into a furnace and to improve the radial homogeneity and the uniformity of a refractive index of glass. CONSTITUTION: The device is a furnace comprising a means for producing silica glass; a means(13) for collecting the glass; a means for allowing the air to flow into the device; and a means for allowing some of the flow to be fallen down from the means for collecting. A boule(19) of silica glass is formed by flame hydrolysis. A peripheral passage(175) circulates air around the formed boule(19). At least one part of air flow is kept apart from the formed boule(19) and is allowed to flow outward radially to reduce the influence on the homogeneity of the boule(19).
