Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE: A fluorescent lamp and a method for manufacturing an electrode assembly for Fluorescent lamp are provided to dispense with a heater power source and operable at low voltage by providing a first electrode comprising a lead wire having an electron emitting material piece at the free end and a second electrode having a cup-like tube for enclosing the lead wire and electron emitting material piece, and forming an annular cavity between the cut-like tube and the electron emitting material piece. CONSTITUTION: A first electrode includes a lead wire(20) and an electron emitting material piece(30) provided at the free end of the lead wire(20). The electron emitting material piece(30) is formed by dipping the end of the lead wire(20) in a liquid solution in which a radiating material is dispersed. A second electrode(22) is formed in the same manner as the first electrode, and it comprises a metal tube(32). The metal tube(32) is put on the lead wire(20) and electron emitting material piece(30) while providing an annular cavity, and caulked to the lead wire(20). Electrode assemblies(16, 18) are baked in vacuum and sealed to a glass tube, and a discharge gas such as argon is sealed therein. The length of the cup-like metal tube(32) is set to 2-2.5 times the inside diameter, whereby the lamp discharge is ingeniously performed to extend the lamp life. The electron emitting material allows the thermoionic operation with low current and low power.
