Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: A photocatalyst for water decomposition comprising metal carrying Sr2Nb2O7 and their manufacturing process are provided which give a photocatalyst excellent in water decomposition activity. CONSTITUTION: A photocatalyst of the following formula : M(x)/sr2Nb2O7 having excellent hydrogen formation capacity is described. In formula, M denotes a metal, which is carried to Sr2Nb2O7 and may be preferably Ni, Pt, Bi, Cs, or Ru, x is 0.01 to 3.0% as a percent by weight of a carrying metal to a carrier. The process comprises mixing Sr2Nb2O7 with Nb2O5 in a mole ratio of 2 : 1 and calcining at 1,000 to 1,200°C for 5 to 10 hr.
