Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: A method for formatting optical disk is provided to prolong the life of the disk by registering a first sector of a defective block registered in a secondary defect list in a primary defective list. CONSTITUTION: In a method for formatting optical disk, a slipping replacement for assigning a spare region as a user region is not conducted with respect to defective sectors registered in a primary defect list to maintain the disk in an initial state. Only a first sector of a defective block registered in a secondary defect list is registered in a primary defective list. Accordingly, there is no need to record an initial section number of the user region when formatting the optical disk.
