Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: A catalyst for purifying a material stream and a method for purifying the material stream using the catalyst are provided, which are free from the pollution and the production of copper acetate and are economical. CONSTITUTION: A catalyst comprises 0.05-1.0 wt% of one or more metals of Group 10 in the periodic table or their compound; 0.05-1.0 wt% of one or more metals of Group 11 in the periodic table or their compound; and a SiO2-containing catalyst support with BET surface of 2-400 square meter per gram, wherein the weight ratio of the metals of Group 10 to the metals of Group 11 is in the range of 0.95 to 1.05 and 20% or more volume of the total volume of pores is constituted with pores having a diameter greater than 100 nm. Preferably the metal of Group 10 is palladium, the metal of Group 11 is silver, and the support contains diatomite. Alkene, diene, mono unsaturated hydrocarbon and/or oxygen are removed from a material stream by reacting the material stream containing alkene, diene, mono unsaturated hydrocarbon and/or oxygen with hydrogen in the presence of the catalyst.
