Frequency synthesizer using high resolution phase generator and controlling method thereof

According to the present invention, a frequency synthesizer using a high resolution phase generator comprises: a phase frequency detector to compare phases of two signals to generate an error signal corresponding to the compared phases; a voltage-controlled oscillator to use a voltage signal generated based on the error signal to generate a plurality of signals each having a plurality of phases different from each other to output the signals; a phase rotating divider to select arbitrary phase values among the signals having the plurality of phases, and interpolate the selected phase values to output a divided phase value; and a frequency divider to divide a frequency associated with a phase value outputted from the phase rotating divider based on the phase value, and provide feedback on the divided frequency to the phase frequency detector. The frequency synthesizer has a small quantization error by dynamic control of a phase interpolator. 본 발명에 따른 고해상도 위상 생성기를 이용한 주파수 합성기는 두 신호의 위상을 비교하여 상기 비교된 위상에 상응하는 오차 신호를 발생시키는 위상 주파수 검출기; 상기 오차 신호에 기반하여 생성된 전압 신호를 이용하여 각각 서로 다른 복수의 위상들을 갖는 복수의 신호들을 생성하여 출력하는 전압 제어 발진기; 상기 복수의 위상을 갖는 신호들 중 임의의 일부 위상 값들을 선택하고, 상기 선택된 위상 값들을 보간하여 분주된 위상 값을 출력하는 위상 회전 분주기; 및 상기 위상 회전 분주기로부터 출력된 위상 값에 기반하여, 상기 위상 값과 연관된 주파수를 분주하고, 상기 분주된 주파수를 상기 위상 주파수 검출기로 피드백하는 주파수 분주기를 포함하고, 위상 보간기의 동적 제어를 통해 적은 양자화 오차를 갖는다.
