Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE: An authenticating method and a device thereof are provided to apply DCAS without the change of hardware in a set top box based on existing open cables and to deal with illegal copy by a third party. CONSTITUTION: An authentication method comprises the following steps: a step of maintaining the number of a first counter corresponding to DCAS host; a step of receiving the number of a second counter, which is stored in a DCAS host, from the DCAS host when boot processing of the DCAS host; a Step of comparing the number of the first counter number and the number of the second counter number; and a step of performing authentication procedure of the DCAS host if the number of the first counter number is equal to the number of the second counter number.
