Zusammenfassung:A method for preparing a 3-(1-hydroxyalkyl)-3-butene-2-one is provided to improve production yield remarkably and to inhibit the generation of a methylvinyl ketone dimer. A 3-(1-hydroxyalkyl)-3-butene-2-one represented by the formula 1 is prepared by using methylvinyl ketone as a starting material and by adding octanol as an additive instead of an organic solvent, wherein R is CH3CH2CH2, CH3CHCH, c-C6H11, 4-OMe-C6H4, 4-CN-C6H4, 4-CF3-C6H4, 2-NO2-C6H4, 4-NO2-C6H4, or 4-Cl-C6H4. Preferably the ratio of methylvinyl ketone : aldehyde : octanol is 1 : 1 : 2 by equivalence.
