APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING A FLYING HEIGHT OF MAGNETIC HEAD IN RETRY MODE AND DISK DRIVE USING THE SAME

An apparatus and a method for controlling the flying height of a magnetic head in a retry mode and a disc drive using the same are provided to reduce the frequency of a retry operation by controlling the flying height in a read retry mode and a write retry mode. An apparatus for controlling the flying height of a magnetic head in a retry mode includes a magnetic head(16), a controller(340), and a heater power supplying circuit(380). The magnetic head(16) includes a reader which detects a magnetic field on a disc and a writer of magnetizing the disc. The magnetic head(16) has a structure of generating an air bearing surface between the reader and a disc surface and between the writer and the disc surface. The magnetic head(16) includes a heater of heating the structure. The controller(340) generates a power control signal for adjusting the flying height of the magnetic head in the retry mode. The heater power supplying circuit(380) generates power corresponding to the power control signal to supply the power to the heater.
