APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR A COMPANION DEVICE SENSING OF VOIP DEVICE

An apparatus for sensing the other terminal in a VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol) terminal and a method therefor are provided to configure a separate sensing module inside the VoIP terminal in order to analyze whether RTP(Real-time Transport Protocol) data received from the other terminal, where a communication session is established, is normal, through the sensing module, thus the VoIP terminal can independently sense the state of the other terminal. A media processor(130) receives RTP data from the other terminal where a VoIP communication session is established, and processes the received RTP data. A sensing module(140) senses that the RTP data is received in the media processor(130), and analyzes whether the received data is normal, in order to decide whether a state of the other terminal is normal. If the other terminal is in abnormal state, the sensing module(140) outputs an abnormal signal of the other terminal to the media processor(130).
