IMAGE RECORDING AND REPRODUCING APPARATUS FOR DIGITAL VCR

PURPOSE: A device for recording and reproducing video of a D-VCR(Digital-Video Cassette Recorder) is provided to decide a bit rate of inputted digital data and discriminate a tape kind according to a recordable wavelength of a videotape, so as to vary a recording or reproducing speed and automatically control a recording mode or a reproducing mode to an SP or LP mode. CONSTITUTION: An IRD(Integrated Receiver Decoder(11) receives a broadcasting signal from a digital signal source for processing. In a VCR(Video Cassette Recorder)(19), an input/output unit(12) inputs a received digital signal, and outputs a reproduced digital signal. A signal processor(13) processes the inputted digital signal appropriately for a recording format or the reproduced digital signal appropriately for a reproducing format for outputting, and detects a bit rate of the digital signal, to output a recording or reproducing control signal. A tape kind detector(14) detects a tape kind according to a recordable wavelength of a videotape. A controller(15) receives the tape kind detection signal to discriminate a tape kind, and receives the control signal from the signal processor(13) to control a recording or reproducing speed. A drum(16) drives a rotative head drum. A head(17) records the recording signal outputted in the signal processor(13) in the videotape, or reproduces a recorded video signal to be inputted to the signal processor(13).
