Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-base coating material which is useful as an elastic base coating material esp. suitable for coating interior and exterior walls of a building and to provide a finish coating method whereby a double coating layer with a good finished appearance and a high durability can be formed using the same. SOLUTION: The coating material, used as an elastic base coating material, contains an emulsion of copolymer containing carbonyl groups and a pigment, does not contain any cross-linking agent capable of forming cross-links with carbonyl groups, contains the pigment in an amt. of 30-70vol.%, and forms a coating film having an elongation at break of 30-150% at an atmospheric temp. of 20 deg.C. The coating method comprises applying the water-base coating material and then a topcoating material to the surface of an object to coated.
