DIPPING LANCE

PURPOSE: To suppress the occurrence of cracks with a higher melt loss resistance enhanced by a method wherein the lower part of a refractory sheath has the inside thereof covered with a higher heat conductive refractory to be directly cooled by a cooling gas circulation pipe while the upper part thereof is provided with an air shielding layer between the part and the pipe to be indirectly cooled. CONSTITUTION: A circulation pipe 30 for cooling is provided between refractory sheaths 20 which each has a refractory sleeve 21 piled on a suction pipe 10. The pipe 30 comprises a pipe 31 for inflow and a pipe 32 for outflow. The inside of the refractory sleeve 21 is covered with a high heat conductive refractory 22 while a pipe 32 is so formed that a gas for cooling spilled from the pipe 31 for inflow directly contacts the inner circumferential surface of a refractory 22. As a result, the upper refractory sheath 20 has the outflow pipe 32 which is so formed that an air shielding layer 40 is interposed in contact with the inner circumferential surface. This achieves a higher melt loss resistance of the refractory sleeves and an eased heat stress thereby preventing the cracking of the refractories.
