Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To develop the title coated Al alloy having excellent wear resistance without deteriorating the strength of an Al alloy by preheating the Al alloy at a specified temp. coating the surface with a hard nonmetal compd., etc., in a solution-annealing temp. range, immediately quenching, and then age- hardening the alloy. CONSTITUTION:An Al alloy part 7 to be treated in a vacuum vessel 4 is preheated by a heater 5 to 150 deg.C or to a solution-annealing temp. Gaseous N2 is supplied from a gas tube 6 into the vessel 4 to obtain about 0.02-0.005Torr pressure, the Al alloy part 7 is heated to a solution-annealing temp. range, the electric potential of a water-cooled crucible 8 made of copper and contg. metallic Ti is made positive, the potential of a tube 9 made of Ta is made negative, gaseous Ar is injected from the tube 9 to generate a glow discharge, hence the metallic Ti is ionized, the Ti ion is allowed to collide with the Al alloy part 7 along with the gaseous N2 ion, and a film of TiN is formed. The part is immediately discharged from the vessel 4, cooled with water, and age-hardened. By this method, an Al alloy with a coating having excellent wear resistance is produced.
