Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer having excellent heat-resistance, etc., and suitable for precision parts, etc., by reacting a dihydric phenol with a specific amount of an agent for forming alkali metal salt and reacting the reaction product with a dihalogenobenzenoid compound in an inert organic solvent having high polarity. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer is produced by reacting (A) a dihydric phenol of formula I (Y is 1-5C alkylene, etc.; R and R are CH3, etc.; n1 and n2 are 0-4) (e.g. 4,4'-dihydroxybenzophenone) with (B) an agent for forming alkali metal salt (e.g. sodium) to form an alkali metal disalt of dihydric phenol, dissolving the obtained salt and (C) a dihalogenobenzenoid compound of formula II (X and X' are halogen; Z is CO, etc.; R and R are CH3, etc.; n3 and n4 are 0-4) in (D) an inert organic solvent having high polarity (e.g. tetramethylenesulfone) and reacting the components with each other. The amount of the component B is 0.1-1% excess to the hydroxyl equivalent of the component A.
