COATING APPARATUS

PURPOSE:To form a film excellent in surface smoothness and having no air bubbles mixed therewith, in a vertical type coating apparatus for coating a cylindrical body by utilizing a ring-shaped liquid container, by making the inner diameter of the liquid container variable at the time of coating work. CONSTITUTION:In forming a photoconductive layer to an electrophotoelectric photosensitive body, an endless tube 8 having an air chamber 9 is mounted in the liquid container 1 mounted to the outside of a cylindrical body 3. The feed-in and discharge of compressed air with respect to the air chamber 9 from an air port 10 through an air introducing line 11 are performed in synchronous relation to the start and finish of coating work. Therefore, air is discharged from the endless tube 8 at the start time of coating operation and coating of a desired film thickness can be performed in such a state that the contact of the liquid container 1 with the cylindrical body 3 is released and, at the finish time of coating work, air is fed in the tube 8 to eliminate the gap between both of them so as to bring the same to a contact state and, therefore, the running of a coating liquid is prevented.
