Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for various polymers in high yield, by dimerizing a 4-halogenoorthophthalic ester through dehalogenation in a basic aqueous solution in the presence of a noble metal carrying catalyst and a formate under heating. CONSTITUTION:A 4-halogenoorthophthalic ester (especially preferably 4- bromoorthophthalic acid monoalkyl ester or dialkyl ester) is blended with >=2mol, preferably 2.1-5.0mol aqueous solution of a base such as potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, etc., in the presence of a noble metal carrying catalyst (especially preferably Pd-carbonaceous carbon catalyst) and a formate (e.g. sodium formate, etc.) and the mixture is reacted at about 90-120 deg.C to give 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid. The acid is readily recovered. |
