Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To manufacture a light weight, performance battery using a light weight and low resistance grid by molding an active mass in a shape of electrode plate and reducing a part of the active mass to metal lead to convert it to a grid. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 16 filled with an active mass 18 is placed in an atmosphere of H2 gas, infrared rays 20 from an infrared lamp 19 are condensed with a concave mirror 21, and emitted on the surface of the active mass. The beam diameter of the infrared rays on the active mass surface is adjusted to the value similar to the width of a grid to be made. Because condensed infrared rays have high energy density, the active mass emitted with the beam is heated in an atmosphere of H2 gas at 1,000 deg.C or more, PbO is melted and reduced to convert metal lead 22. The thickness h' of metal lead 22 formed is adjusted by energy of a light source and the location of a focus. Therefore, cross section of the grid to be made can be arbitrarily changed.
