STEERING MEMBER FOR AUTOMOBILE

PURPOSE:To improve the bending rigidity and vibration resistance of a steering member in a specified direction according to each of its deformed sectional shapes by forming the section of the annular steering member supporting a steering column vibration-resistively in deformed shape. CONSTITUTION:A steering column 3 is fastened with a bolt 7a to a bracket lower 4 located near a drivers seat on a tubular steering member 1 arranged in the direction of car width. A bracket steering post 6 covers the steering member 1, and is fastened with a bolt 7b to the bracket lower 4. A steering shaft 11 with a steering wheel 10 is inserted through the steering column 3. In the above structure, the steering member 1 is formed to have a deformed section, and if having a oval section, it is therefore improved in its rigidity mainly against vertical bending stress.
