PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL RECORDING MEDIUM

PURPOSE:To easily form a thin film having a uniform and required film thickness continuously on a flat disk-shaped substrate by holding a coating liquid for forming the thin film on a coating member consisting of a roller form having a cylindrical or other surface and bringing the same into contact with said substrate. CONSTITUTION:The cylindrical roller 2 and a roller 3 are disposed above and below and the flat disk-shaped substrate 1 fixed onto a conveying belt 5 driven by a conveying roller 4 is disposed in proximity to the roller 2. The coating liquid 7 for forming the thin film is held on the roller 2 via feed rollers 6, 6'. While a specified spacing is held maintained between the rollers 2 and 6', the rollers are rotated in an arrow direction in contact with each other, by which the specified amt. of the coating liquid 7 is supplied onto the roller 2 and is transferred from the roller 2 onto the surface of the substrate 1. An org. solvent having >=70 deg.C b.p. is incorporated into the coating liquid 7 to adjust the solvent viscosity (20 deg.C) of the coating soln. to >=1.0cps, then the coating liquid 7 is supplied onto the roller 2 at a uniform thickness and the thin film is formed at the uniform and thin thickness on the substrate 1. The liquid sagging from the roller 2 is prevented as well.
