Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To reduce the cost of a surface treated steel sheet for producing a can without deteriorating the superior corrosion resistance by reducing the amount of Sn stuck to one side of the steel sheet corresponding to the outside of a can. CONSTITUTION:An Fe-Sn-Ni alloy layer contg. 0.01-1g/m Ni is formed on one side of a steel sheet corresponding to the outside of a can, a metal Sn layer is formed on the Fe-Sn-Ni alloy layer by 0.08-1.5g/m and a chromate layer consisting of metal Cr and chromium oxide hydrate is further formed on the Sn layer by 5-30mg/m (expressed in terms of Cr). An Fe-Sn alloy layer, a metal Sn layer and a chromate layer are successively formed on the other side of the steel sheet corresponding to the inside of the can.
